MIND YOUR WAKE
Loving Father, you sent Christ to show us of your love and forgiveness.
Remind us that your call us to be responsible for our actions and words and to love others as ourselves.
When we recall the story of the Prodigal Son who returned from the far country and was forgiven by his father,
remind us that there were no doubt consequences and dangerous waves caused by the son?s behavior and spending spree.
We imagine the son?s behavior caused pain in his family, enmity with his older brother,
and had an evil influence on his friends. Remind us that although we are forgiven people, no amount of
forgiveness can evade the consequences of negative acts. There is a ripple effect of all that we do -- good and bad.
So grant that every word we speak may be fitting for You to hear; that every deed we do may be fit for You to see.
Help us to be careful how we live and to never forget that someone is following in our wake.
May we finish this day with nothing badly done; and nothing to regret and nothing to make us ashamed,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
