Sermon: “Under the Influence”
“Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit…” (Ephesians 5:18)
It’s sad when a person abuses drugs or alcohol. Those who are drunk are often said to be “under the
influence”. Imagine that the Scripture readings this Sunday from Acts and Ephesians compare and contrast
someone who is under the influence with that of the Christian. The Church was so alive on Pentecost,
(often called the birthday of the Church), that the early Christians were accused of being “bombed”.
What does it mean to be filled and under the influence of the Holy Spirit? Join us this Sunday at one
of our three morning worship services to find out.
