Following
thirty
years as a pastoral counselor and teacher of pastoral counseling
in Maryland, Bob has returned to his birthplace to become a
tethered interim pastor. He has served two churches in this
presbytery for 18 months each before beginning at Northwood in
November. This is his first interim associate pastor position.
He says of interim ministry: ”I’m just
here 'til someone better comes along,” and he hopes they will not
hurry. His major responsibility will be to offer pastoral care
services to the congregation and to support the work of lay
pastoral caregivers. Bob is married to the Rev. Marcia Davenport,
an Episcopal Priest at St. Johns in Tampa where she is the
chaplain in the day school and is known as Mother Marcia. Bob
holds degrees from the University of Florida, The Presbyterian
School of Christian Education, Yale Divinity School and Vanderbilt
Divinity School. He has discovered that his doctorate serves him
very well when he wants to get a physician on the phone, and that
a perfectly adequate form of address is “Bob” as long as you don’t
spell it backward.
